In this class students will learn the ancient art of Japanese paper marbling, known as Suminagashi, and Japanese bookbinding. The first session will cover the basic techniques of Suminagashi and students will create their own marbled paper. The next session will go over different stab-binding stitches and students will create a set of traditional Japanese-bound books using their marbled paper for the covers.
Two Day workshop begins Saturday, April 25th, 2020. Class limited to six participants.

Anna Bugbee
Anna Bugbee received a BFA in printmaking from New York University in 2015. She has been teaching bookbinding since 2011, and has participated in numerous book and print fairs across the US, including the LA Art Book Fair and the Yale University Art Book Fair. She has books in the collections of multiple institutions including Smith College, and Printed Matter Inc. in New York. She has also been the studio assistant for various workshops at Penland, Anderson Ranch, and Haystack craft schools.
